Member Categories

Architect Members are those who are legal residents of and have an architectural license by any state, the District of Columbia, or any U.S. Territory.

Associate Members are either those persons without architectural licenses who are employed under the supervision of a licensed architect in a professional or technical capacity directly related to the practice of architecture, or those eligible by experience who are employed in circumstances recognized by licensing authorities as constituting credit toward architectural registration.

Emeritus Members are those members who have maintained membership for 15 years and has reached the age of 70, or has reached the age of 60 and is retired, or is incapacitated so as to be unable to work in the profession. Members must apply for emeritus status. All rights and privileges associated with AIA Membership remain unchanged, except that Members Emeritus are no longer required to pay either individual or supplemental dues. Those wishing to continue to receive all official mailings and publications may be charged nominal annual dues.

The single source dues invoices for all three levels (National, State, and Local) dues will be mailed by AIA in December. AIA dues are payable on or before January 15. Members who have not paid AIA dues by February 28 shall be in default and shall be so notified. Members still in default as of March 31 shall be terminated retroactive to January 1 of that year.
