Explore the distinctive architecture of the Adirondack Park and the powerful relationship between its natural landscape and built environment. Drawing from her extensive research for The Adirondack Architecture Guide, architect and author Janet A. Null will examine how geography, natural resources, settlement, industry, tourism, and local craftsmanship have shaped the region’s architecture.
The program will venture beyond the iconic Great Camps and Adirondack Rustic style to uncover the remarkable variety of buildings and structures found throughout the Park—from camps, cottages and hotels to civic buildings, churches, bridges, boathouses and other often-overlooked examples of Adirondack design.
Along the way, participants will discover how native materials, regional building traditions, and the Adirondacks’ unique history have created an architectural character inseparable from the landscape itself.
